Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as nose surgery or a nose job, is a cosmetic surgery procedure to enhance the appearance of the nose and correct any basic functional aberrations. On the surface, rhinoplasty may appear to be a relatively minor procedure, but in reality it is a highly intricate surgery. Even the slightest change to the size or shape of the nose can have a substantial impact on the overall appearance of the face.
The surgeon has to perform rhinoplasty while keeping other facial features in consideration so that the procedure should not result in a lack of harmony between the chin and the nose, or the forehead and the nose, and so on. Dr. Eric Yavrouian is a reputed facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who is fully trained to provide procedures such as rhinoplasty. He receives patients from Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, CA, and surrounding areas for nose surgery and other facial and neck procedures.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery procedure is designed to reshape or resize the nose and bring it in alignment with the rest of the face. In some cases, rhinoplasty can also help relieve the patient of issues related to obstruction in nasal breathing. Specific improvements that can be achieved with rhinoplasty include the following:
- Oversized or excessively wide nose can be reduced.
- Bulbous, drooping or upturned nasal tip can be redefined.
- Damaged sinus cavities can be repaired.
- A deviated septum can be repaired.
- Proportion and balance of the nose can be restored.
- Functional problems related to breathing can be corrected.
As an experienced facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Yavrouian is fully equipped to provide rhinoplasty as well as revision rhinoplasty procedures to patients in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, CA, and surrounding locations.
Techniques
Rhinoplasty may be performed using general anesthesia or IV sedation and local anesthesia, depending on the case. Dr. Yavrouian prefers to perform this procedure using the closed rhinoplasty technique, which leaves no visible scars outside. This technique involves an incision that is placed inside the nostril, and the surgery is performed through the incision to achieve the desired shape and size of the nose.
However, if the patient requires a major nose reconstruction or significant nasal reshaping, a technique called open rhinoplasty may be applied. In this case, a small incision is placed across the columella, which represents the external end of the nasal septum. A skilled facial plastic surgeon will ensure that the scar remains as inconspicuous as possible, and the desired results are achieved in a conservative and safe manner.
Dr. Yavrouian will perform rhinoplasty in a hospital or an ambulatory surgery center. In many cases, the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis.
Recovery
Most patients will experience some pain and discomfort in the first week, which can be managed with pain medications as prescribed by the surgeon. Sutures and nasal splints are removed in about five to seven days. Most of the swelling will subside in the first three months. Patients can usually go back to work in about one week after the surgery.
