How Old Do I Have To Be For Lip Fillers?

How Old Do I Have To Be For Lip Fillers?

How Old Do I Have To Be For Lip Fillers? | Pasadena Surgeon | GlendaleLip fillers are one of the most sought-after cosmetic procedures amongst patients, allowing them to augment their lips to appear fuller. This procedure is FDA-approved for patients 21 years and older, but still may be performed on patients 18 years and older. Patients younger than 18 years old are unlikely to find a reputable treatment provider willing to inject them at such a young age. Board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Eric Yavrouian provides lip fillers to patients in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Greater Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding communities.

What are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are injectable dermal fillers that consist of hyaluronic acid. When injected, they can help add volume and reshape the lips.

Treatment

A topical numbing cream will be applied prior to your treatment to help reduce pain and discomfort. After the lips are numb, your injector will begin to inject the dermal fillers into areas of your lips that could use volume. This procedure usually takes less than an hour to complete, and results are visible immediately after. Patients can return to their normal routine right after treatment but should expect some swelling and bruising over the next few days. Results from lip fillers typically will last from one to one and a half years.

Can I Get Lip Fillers If I’m Under 21?

Patients under 21 years of age can still receive lip fillers, but you must be at least 18 years old to receive a cosmetic procedure. It is important to see a trustworthy provider for your treatment, and if you are turned away because of your age, do not seek treatment from someone unqualified. To ensure the best results, you should see a board-certified plastic surgeon, dermatologist, or injector that are employed under their supervision. Board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Eric Yavrouian provides lip fillers to patients in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Greater Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding communities.

This procedure can be done on only the upper lids, only the lower lids, or on both the upper and lower eyelids at the same time. Board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Eric Yavrouian provides upper and lower eyelid surgery to patients in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Greater Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding communities.

Recovery Time

Following eyelid surgery, you may experience sensitivity to light, blurry or double vision, puffiness and numbness, watering eyes, swelling and bruising, and some discomfort and pain. You will need someone to drive you home following your surgery, and it is recommended they stay with you throughout the night to assist you.

Patients should expect bruising, swelling, and scarring at the incision site for several weeks following surgery. You may resume work within the first week or two following your procedure, depending on your comfort level. Bruising will persist for about 2 to 3 weeks, while swelling may take over 2 months to subside. Scars may take a year or more to heal and begin improving.

Improving Your Recovery

You may help ensure a smooth and speedy recovery by:

  • Taking time off work to allow yourself to rest and properly recover
  • Stocking up your fridge and preparing your bedside before your procedure
  • Follow your post-op instructions from your surgeon. You may need to use ointments or ice compressions to help your recovery.
  • Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun and wind during recovery
  • Get adequate sleep to help the body heal
